The Town of Bennett and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in collaboration with contractor Morton Electric, will be implementing a closure of the eastbound off and on ramps with detours beginning August 14, 2023 for the repair and realignment of the I-70 Eastbound off-ramp.

Single-lane closures are not possible because the current size of the roadway and alignment of the on and off ramp would not permit larger vehicles to safely commute through the intersection while work is happening concurrently on the bridge. Additionally, there is a large amount of subgrade preparation that is required for this project and doing everything together in lieu of using a phased approach, ensures a top quality finished product.

During the extended closure, all traffic will be detoured and variable message boards, signs and construction devices will be present alerting motorists of the closure and detour routes. The westbound on and off-ramp will remain open.

Closure Timeline

·The closure will begin at 7:00 a.m., Monday, August 14. Duration of closure to be determined.

·All construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.

Detour Routes & Traffic Impacts

·Manila Road - exit 299, then head north to SH36 and turn right (east).

·Kiowa Bennett Road - exit 305.

·Strasburg - exit 310 (for those traveling eastbound on I-70).

·Project updates will be posted on this web page.

·Motorists are reminded to drive slowly and obey the posted speed limit.

Project Overview

Colorado is one of the fastest-growing states in the country, and with that growth comes strain on aging transportation systems that have significant consequences in the form of growing safety and mobility problems.

The purpose of this project is to increase safety and efficiency for the traveling public and alleviate queuing of vehicles onto I-70 on the eastbound off-ramp at Bennett’s main exit, 304.

The eastbound off-ramp is being realigned and reconstructed as well as the upper half of the eastbound on-ramp. Additionally, the approaches of both ramps are being realigned where they meet State Highway 79 to provide more turning room for larger vehicles, and safer means of traveling through this intersection for all vehicles.

Funding for this project comes partially from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Adams and Arapahoe County Sub-Regional Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) funding from the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) and the Town of Bennett.
