Tri-County Health Department formally dissolved December 31, 2022, which resulted in Adams County, Arapahoe County and Douglas County to operate individual public health departments beginning January 1, 2023. To serve the Town of Bennett, Adams and Arapahoe County Health Departments are now in place for health department services and guidelines. Below is an overview of each County’s information, areas of priorities and how they will serve the Town of Bennett. Adams and Arapahoe County have kept the same locations and most of the same staff that Tri-County Health had.

What is the difference between public health services and individual healthcare service? Public Health services focus on protection and promoting the health of entire populations, while healthcare services focus on diagnosing and treating individual patients. Public Health Departments seek to improve lives and the health of communities through the prevention and treatment of disease and the promotion of healthy behaviors.
Uses of public health departments include:

  • Treating disease before it can spread into the community
  • Coordinating & conducting inspections
  • Track communicable diseases
  • Access to adequate nutrition
  • Immunizations availability

CHANGES/SERVICES/LOCATIONS
Adams County Public Health Department focus is increased staffing for unique public health needs in Adams County for community engagement efforts, environmental health, mental health, health equity, etc., and increase collaboration with County Departments for community safety and wellbeing, community and economic development and human services.
Arapahoe County Public Health Department focus over the next 15 months is to conduct a community health assessment and engage communities throughout the county to learn more about health concerns, needs and strengths. Bennett will be an area of focus since there is no good data about food security, housing, access to health care and the aging population.
Residents can receive public health services at either Adams or Arapahoe County Public Health Departments for most services such as WIC, Family Planning, Immunizations, Sexual Health and Harm Reduction. Services for businesses that are county specific based on the business address are health inspections and septic systems.
