Participants wanted for Bennett Community Garden

The Town of Bennett is looking for community volunteers to plant and care for the Bennett Community Garden in Civic Center Park.

There are currently 12 garden beds and the Town is looking for volunteers to care for those beds and help the garden flourish. Volunteers would be assigned a garden plot and would be responsible for plot prep, planting seeds/seedlings, weeding, maintenance and watering their spot.

There are no fees associated with maintaining the garden beds but the Town does recommend a donation to those who participate. This donation goes toward costs associated with water, maintenance and materials for the garden.

Individuals who are interested in being a community gardener should contact Public Works Office Coordinator, Shannon Patrick, at (303)644-3249 ext. 1039 or spatrick@bennett.co.us.

The Town of Bennett was awarded two grants in 2019 to create a community garden. Those grants were awarded from Adams County Open Space and LiveWell HEAL Cities and Towns.

In that same year, the Town worked together with the Bennett School District FFA to create the design of the garden. Their research and suggestions ultimately helped shape the current layout of six raised garden beds with generous walkways in between each.

A community tree mural by local artist, Christopher Deaver, also resides at the Community Garden. This piece of artwork includes community member art pieces that were collected at Bennett Days and Trunk-or-Treat.

The garden is located at the Civic Center Complex near Town of Bennett Town Hall.

The Bennett Community Garden was created for the community. Neighbors are encouraged to participate in all levels of development and site maintenance. Individuals of all ages, backgrounds, etc. are encouraged to come together in the spirit of community to enjoy the garden.
